All of the boats had broken anchor during a heavy wind storm. A large section of the pier was destroyed leaving one of the intrepid onlookers stranded on the ocean side of the gaping hole. Canadian Airforce Search and Rescue launched a Cormorant helicopter from Comox B.C. to airlift the individual off the pier in the middle of the dangerous storm.
