a Crew Breaking Ice on a Frozen Ship

I’m guessing the people commenting about using a steam line have never been in weather this cold or had to pound ice.

So I never got this….. why wouldn’t they use a Pneumatic chipper, kinda like a jackhammer but not so intense to break up the ice rather than slamming it it pieces?
