Thank you to the Warrior Sailing Program for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Newport, RI. This was an adventure I will not soon forget.
I was very fortunate to be paired up with the crew we had on boat #14. Having never sailed together before, we were able to sync up in a day of practice. During the races we made good strategic moves, executed our plans, stayed in the fight, and worked together as a team to secure a 1st place victory. During the final race we went from last place to a 2nd place point finish securing our overall win. If you feel like you are falling behind don't get discouraged, and stay in the fight.
